God s Little Aphorisms

I've had my own love/hate relationship with God. But let me tell you about the God
I connect to—the one who is as close to me as the nose on my face. My God told
me that I am a part of her, and she exists within me. There is no separation.

They can change our lives. Whether or not you consider yourself spiritual, try them. See if you don't feel better. Praise for Green's Sacred Union: The Healing of God "A dynamic, iconoclastic, thoughtful and thought-provoking work that seeks to reconcile the age-old dichotomy of a world filled with horrible evils and the worship of a holy supreme creator [A] transcendental work with a message that reaches past all boundaries within the mind and soul." Midwest Book Review "A unique and powerfully written book that makes sense of the human experience, helps release humanity from shame and blame, and ultimately brings us to a reconciliation with God and each other." The highly anticipated follow-up to the wildly popular Glimpse Quick is George Murray’s second collection of aphorisms — a form that straddles the lines between poetry, philosophy, humour, and prose. He describes these pieces as “poetic essences” — sometimes even as “poems, without all the poetry getting in the way.” Some are deep, some clever, some funny, some all three. The best, he says, should read like common-sense statements that have never actually been expressed. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 16.0px Times; -webkit-text-stroke: #000000} span.s1 {font-kerning: none} Built out of more than 450 short statements, Quick is a series of thoughts and ruminations, any one of which could be an entire poem but instead has been compressed into a single profundity. Following his bestselling Glimpse, Murray continues to explore a wide range of themes: from deep existential disquiet to the comforts of the meaning of belief; from what it means to be alive to how the world deals with hate, love, the sublime, and the ridiculous.

The mid-level text of Flemming's successful series, Reading for Results hones students' comprehension skills and introduces them to the basics of critical reading. Featuring the author's trademark high-interest reading selections, this developmental text motivates students to complete numerous exercises and tests, while simultaneously fostering the idea that reading is a stimulating and exciting activity in its own right. Step by step, students learn strategies for improving their vocabulary and using SQ3R, a well-known system for how to effectively survey, question, read, recite, and recall material from college textbooks. Basic reading skills include how to find main ideas; draw inferences; locate supporting details; and understand charts, graphs, and tables. Two chapters are devoted to patterns of development, one on recognizing patterns in paragraphs and one on combining patterns in paragraphs and longer readings. The text's final chapter covers all the basics of critical reading: distinguishing tone; detecting bias; and analyzing arguments for errors in reasoning. New! Due to the growing emphasis on state exit exams, Flemming models both excerpts and exercises after these tests--emphasizing, in particular, the Florida State Exit Exam. New! More multi-paragraph readings prepare students for college-level texts, covering such topics as the founding of Liberia, the triumph of Lance Armstrong, and the painful effects of stereotyping. The Ninth Edition also includes a new sample chapter drawn from a psychology textbook. New! Completely revised, the critical-reading chapter now includes more material on purpose, tone, and bias which play a key role on the Florida exit exam. New! Chapter 5, Inferring Main Ideas, has been revised to include more discussion of inferences and how to draw them. New! Four new multi-page readings, including a lengthy discussion of ethical decision making, a topic explored further in the next book in Flemming's series, Reading for Thinking.
