Many people join churches for the same reasons they would join a local country club: it is close to their home, their friends are members there, their kids like it, and it doesn't require much commitment as long as you are current on your dues. Church membership must mean more than that! Our reasons for becoming members of a particular church must be more philosophical than pragmatic. When someone stands before an entire congregation and becomes a member of a particular congregation, we should see that moment as a high and holy moment where the vows being taken are weighty and significant. There are usually only two times in someone's life that they stand before a congregation and say, "I do"--at their wedding and when they join the church. Don't Swear in Church (unless you really mean it!) is designed to help all of us consider and reconsider the significance of the vows we take as the Bride of Christ.

This book is all about helping self-help health consumers understand wellness maximising health by minimising risk. Written by a Complementary Medicine and Wellness expert of forty years experience, this book busts confusion and con around many popular wellness therapies and products by exposing what works, what doesn’t and protects the self-help wellness consumer from slick marketing and bogus therapies. This book is the culmination of principles learnt in clinical practice using medicine, biochemical science, nutritional medicine, personal training and life coaching to carefully examine many marketing claims around wellness products. Wellness, like most billion-dollar industries, is simply one of mitigating risk, and much of it is operated in a manner which could be described as survival of the fittest and slickest marketing, almost a wild west of wellness, with few safeguards to protect self-help health consumers from dubious products and therapies. This book changes all that. This book helps protect you from the wrong kind of wellness advice and products. You have a right to know, without confusion and con, not only value for money, but maximize wellness therapies and products by understanding how they work and why others don’t. This book has an additional benefit. There is just enough technical information to serve the needs of health professionals like life and fitness coaches, but an easy straightforward read so everyday health consumers can apply it to their wellness lives. If you are serious about knowing what you really need to know about wellness this is your book.

However disconnected the essays in the volume might appear to be at first glance, the unifying factor is the very notion of ambiguity—which is one of the essential features of the postmodern age: how it can be defined as opposed to what it means or is, where it can be found, to what purposes it can be put, including questions of whether it is a positive or negative factor. But this, of course, is not a new phenomenon. Writers have always depended on equivocation, multiplicity of meaning, uncertainty of meaning—deliberate mystification one might say. Language itself is the base of ambiguity not only in literature but in everyday public discourse. Thus the papers in the volume should appeal not only to scholars working in the fields of modern or postmodern literature, but those who see the importance of ambiguity in the earlier texts, and perhaps their influences in later writing. Finally the essays included here not only provide specific analyses and proposed solutions for specific works or authors they also open the reader to other appearances of ambiguity, often not simply in literature or critical theory, but in the kinds of social issues the literary works deals with.

In LIVING LIKE YOU MEAN IT, author Ronald J. Frederick, does a brilliant job of describing why people are so afraid of their emotions and how this fear creates a variety of problems in their lives. While the problems are different, the underlying issue is often the same. At the core of their distress is what Dr. Frederick refers to as feelings phobia. Whether it s the experience of love, joy, anger, sadness, or surprise, our inborn ability to be a fully feeling person has been hijacked by fear--and it s fear that s keeping us from a better life. The book begins with a questionnaire-style list that help readers take an honest look at themselves and recognize whether and how they are afraid of their feelings. It then moves on to explore the origins of fear of feeling and introduces a four-part program for overcoming the fear: (1) Become aware of and learn to recognize feelings--anger, sadness, joy, love, fear, guilt/shame, surprise, disgust. (2) Master techniques for taming the fear. (3) Let the feeling work its way all the way through to its resolution. (4) Open up and put those feelings into words and communicate them confidently. With wisdom, humor, and compassion, the book uses stories and examples to help readers see that overcoming feelings phobia is the key to a better life and more fulfilling relationships.

Many of us choose a retail sales environment for employment at some point in our lives. This book is for everyone who is either in, or is about to go into a job that involves direct interaction with customers. Retail can be a challenge at times, but it can also be rewarding. Can I Help You? is a book with an ironic title that explains how to take care of customers from the greeting all the way to the closing and follow-up. The beginning of the book makes it clear that the title phrase is not the best way to greet customers because of its prompting of the most common response, “No thanks, I'm just looking.” Reading this will teach you, as a retail salesperson or associate, how to break the ice and welcome potential customers by using warmth, honesty, and good reputation-building methods. It will assist you in making those customers not only want to buy what you are selling but also become huge fans of your store or business. Can I Help You? is a fun and positive guide for regular people in regular sales jobs that want to succeed and feel good about their success while they are earning money at sales.

*FEATURED IN BILL GATES'S 2019 SUMMER READING RECOMMENDATIONS* From world-renowned economist Paul Collier, a candid diagnosis of the failures of capitalism and a pragmatic and realistic vision for how we can repair it Deep new rifts are tearing apart the fabric of Britain and other Western societies: thriving cities versus the provinces, the highly skilled elite versus the less educated, wealthy versus developing countries. As these divides deepen, we have lost the sense of ethical obligation to others that was crucial to the rise of post-war social democracy. So far these rifts have been answered only by the revivalist ideologies of populism and socialism, leading to the seismic upheavals of Trump, Brexit and the return of the far right in Germany. We have heard many critiques of capitalism but no one has laid out a realistic way to fix it, until now. In a passionate and polemical book, celebrated economist Paul Collier outlines brilliantly original and ethical ways of healing these rifts - economic, social and cultural - with the cool head of pragmatism, rather than the fervour of ideological revivalism. He reveals how he has personally lived across these three divides, moving from working-class Sheffield to hyper-competitive Oxford, and working between Britain and Africa, and acknowledges some of the failings of his profession. Drawing on his own solutions as well as ideas from some of the world's most distinguished social scientists, he shows us how to save capitalism from itself - and free ourselves from the intellectual baggage of the 20th century.

Life’s Like That was born when I was having trouble getting clients at the Family Counseling Center. That is a fancy name that came from my family counseling career. I thought I needed to get some ads in the local newspaper. That led to my meeting Mr Rowe Ray, the managing editor of the San Marcos Daily Record. I simply wanted to explore possibilities but ended with an invitation to write a weekly column for the newspaper. I can honestly say I never broke my word on confidentiality; i.e., everything we talked about stayed in the Center, everything that is except the funny things. I was counseling with a game warden that told me about a lady who was losing a sheep a night to one old hungry coyote. Whenever the warden came out, she would start feeling sorry for the coyote and asked the warden not to shoot it. Finally she had five sheep left. She called the warden and once again told him she wasn’t ready to have him hunt down the coyote. The warden looked at the little flock of sheep and said, “Mrs. Jones, whatever you say, but we’ve only got five more days anyway.” As you read this book there will be tears and sunshine. The good news is you don’t have to sit down and read it all at once. Life Really Is Like That.
