Would you rather know a truth that makes you feel hopeless, or keep believing the lies? Colleen Hoover returns with the spellbinding story of two young people with devastating pasts who embark on a passionate, intriguing journey to discover the lessons of life, love, trust - and above all, the healing power that only truth can bring. Sky, a senior in high school, meets Dean Holder, a guy with a promiscuous reputation that rivals her own. From their very first encounter, he terrifies and captivates her. Something about him sparks memories of her deeply troubled past, a time she's tried so hard to bury. Though Sky is determined to stay far away from him, his unwavering pursuit and enigmatic smile break down her defences and the intensity of their relationship grows. But the mysterious Holder has been keeping secrets of his own, and once they are revealed, Sky is changed forever and her ability to trust may be a casualty of the truth. Only by courageously facing the stark revelations can Sky and Holder hope to heal their emotional scars and find a way to live and love without boundaries. "Those who feel that like lemmings they are being led over a cliff would be well-advised not to read this book. They may discover that they are right."—Noam Chomsky “Jeffrey St. Clair and Joshua Frank have skillfully smoked out the real Barack Obama . . . the technofascist military strategist disguised as a Nobel Peace Laureate, but owned, operated, and controlled by Wall Street, Corporate America, and the Pentagon.”—Thomas H. Naylor, co-author of Affluenza, Downsizing the USA “The writers assembled here hit hard, with accuracy, and do not pull punches."—Marcus Rediker, author of The Slave Ship: A Human History The Barack Obama revolution was over before it started, guttered by the politician’s overweening desire to prove himself to the grandees of the establishment. From there on, other promises proved ever easier to break. Here's the book that dares not let Obama off the hook. It's all here: the compromises, the backstabbing, the same old imperial ambitions. Covering all major "Obummer" categories since he took office, this fast-paced collection will delight the critical and offer food for thought for those contemplating the 2012 electoral circus—and beyond. This book will attempt to explore faith-based responses to unending injustices by embracing the reality of hopelessness. It rejects the pontifications of some salvation history that move the faithful toward an eschatological promise that, when looking back at history, makes sense of all Christian-led brutalities, mayhem, and carnage. To embrace hopelessness moves away from a middle-class privilege that assumes all is going to work out in the end. By upsetting the norm, an opportunity might arise that can lead us to a more just situation, although such acts of defiance usually lead to crucifixion. Hopelessness is what leads to radical liberative praxis.

Set against the breezy backdrop of coastal Rhode Island, bestselling author Marina Adair’s latest novel asks whether two of a small town’s biggest hearts can learn to put themselves first—in the name of love. . . As caregiver for her autistic brother, Beckett Hayes knows how meaningful a little extra help can be when life happens. Which is why she runs Consider It Done, a personal concierge service in her small town. Her job also gives her the flexibility to follow her passion, being Rome, Rhode Island’s unofficial special needs advocate, training emotional support companions in her spare time. There’s not much of that, though, and certainly not enough for serious dating. It’s always been family first for Beck. But one unquestionably gorgeous, good-natured man is suddenly a temptation that’s getting tougher to resist . . . Sixteen years ago, Levi Rhodes was ready to sail off into the sunset—literally. But then his father’s death and his sister’s unexpected pregnancy postponed his sailing scholarship and the adventures he had planned. Running the family marina and bar was the least he could do for his grieving mother. Plus, his niece needed a father-figure. But now that she’s in high school and has her bio-dad in her life, Levi’s wondering if it’s time to get his sea legs under him again. Or he was wondering, until curvy, caring Beck showed up in his bar, and then in his dreams . . . “Charming…Sweet and sensitive, Hopeless Romantic is a funny romance that gently manages heavy issues.” —Shelf Awareness A portion of royalties to benefit The Organization for Autism Research. Wissing’s poignant and eye-opening journey across insurgency-wracked Afghanistan casts an unyielding spotlight on greed, dysfunction, and predictable disaster while celebrating the everyday courage and wisdom of frontline soldiers, idealistic humanitarians, and resilient Afghans. As Wissing hauls a hundred pounds of body armor and pack across the Afghan warzone in search of the ground truth, US officials frantically spin a spurious victory narrative, American soldiers try to keep their body parts together, and Afghans try to stay positive and strain to figure out their next move after the US eventually leaves. As one technocrat confided to Wissing, “I am hopeless—but optimistic.” Along with a deep inquiry into the 21st-century American way of war and an unforgettable glimpse of the enduring culture and legacy of Afghanistan, Hopeless but Optimistic includes the real stuff of life: the austere grandeur of Afghanistan and its remarkable people; warzone dining, defecation, and sex; as well as the remarkable shopping opportunities for men whose job is to kill. The father of dietary and detoxification therapies for treating chronic disease and promoting good health, Dr. Max Gerson was born in Germany, where he practiced medicine until 1933 when he fled Nazi persecution to the United States. In Germany, he developed his dietary therapy for treating tuberculosis and attracted the attention of Dr. Albert Schwietzer, curing his wife's lung tuberculosis. In the United States, Dr. Gerson turned attention to the connection between nutrition and cancer, publishing in 1958 his seminal study, Cancer Therapy: Results of 50 Cases, which has now gone into a 6th edition, with over 350,000 copies in print. The Gerson dietary therapy became highly controversial when attacked by the medical and pharmaceutical establishment then in the process of championing chemical and radiation therapies for cancer. Dr. Gerson was also a pioneering medical ecologist, making the connection between poor health and environmental pollution, developing therapies for detoxifying the body, including his highly effective coffee enema treatment. Despite unrelenting attacks from the medical community, Dr. Gerson's daughter Charlotte founded the Gerson Institute with clinics in Mexico and Arizona, where adherents to the Gerson therapy, not only for cancer but also for other illness, can be treated. Thousands of patients following the Gerson therapy have been cured of chronic illness, many of whom had been given no hope for recovery by the medical establishment. This life story of Dr. Max Gerson and account of his therapies will take a place beside biographies of such other influential health care pioneers as Linus Pauling and Albert Schweitzer in the history of medicine. In THE COURAGE OF HOPELESSNESS, maverick philosopher Slavoj Zizek returns to explore today's ideological, political and economic battles, and asks whether radical change is possible. In these troubled times, even the most pessimistic diagnosis of our future ends with an uplifting hint that things might not be as bad as all that, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Yet, argues Slavoj Zizek, it is only when we have admitted to ourselves that our situation is completely hopeless - that the light at the end of the tunnel is in fact the headlight of a train - that fundamental change can be brought about.

“Praying for a Miracle when it’s Hopeless” is about my physical, mental, and emotional struggle with Stage 4 Breast Cancer while going through a gut-wrenching divorce, and a fight for custody of my son. In 2004 and 2005, I had many battles with breast cancer resulting in two mastectomies and reconstruction surgeries. In 2007, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer with a metastasis to my brain. After surgery, I was sent away in a wheelchair and a diaper by my husband back to my family in CA; leaving me penniless and hopeless. I have no answers as to why my husband tried abandoning me, divorcing me, and leaving me for dead fighting for my life, and for visitation and custody of my son. I may have lost a few battles along the way. But, thanks to God, I won the war!! Included in my book are tips that helped me to recover. I am currently enjoying seeing my son experiencing college life; a site I never thought I'd survive to see. Praise the power of God!!
