This book provides the first systematic overview of German sociology today. Thirty-four chapters review current trends, relate them to international discussions and discuss perspectives for future research. The contributions span the whole range of sociological research topics, from social inequality to the sociology of body and space, addressing pressing questions in sociological theory and innovative research methods. Barbara Kleine-Kalmer analyses the impact of branding in social networks and introduces the construct of brand page attachment. On the basis of a comprehensive quantitative study she validates the construct as relevant for user behavior and investigates which instruments and antecedents influence brand page attachment. Through these conceptually and empirically profound analyses, the author detects interesting implications for the management of brands in the context of social media.

The book highlights new trends and challenges in research on agents and the new digital and knowledge economy. It includes papers on business process management, agent-based modeling and simulation and anthropic-oriented computing that were originally presented at the 14th International KES Conference on Agents and Multi-Agent Systems: Technologies and Applications (KES-AMSTA 2020), being held as a Virtual Conference in June 17–19, 2020. The respective papers cover topics such as software agents, multi-agent systems, agent modeling, mobile and cloud computing, big data analysis, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, social systems, computer embedded systems and nature inspired manufacturing, all of which contribute to the modern digital economy.

Improving Processes and Outcomes in Digital Learning Environments

Einerseits basieren die Studien auf empirischen Umfragen und der Analyse von theoretischen Modellen durch Strukturgleichungsmodellierung zur Entwicklung von Varianztheorien. Anderseits basiert eine Studie auf einem MixedMethods IX.

Digital learning is enabling new and innovative approaches to learning in different domains. The rapid development of technology makes digital learning ubiquitous and offers more self-directed ways of learning. However, digital learning also comes with disadvantages such as poor learning outcomes that have to be addressed systematically. A promising approach is to put the understanding and scaffolded design of digital learning processes at the center. Andreas Janson presents approaches for scaffolding digital learning processes for the domains of higher education and vocational training. These approaches are based on a holistic understanding of learning processes in digital environments. The empirical evaluations show that learning processes are critical for learning outcomes in digital environments. Finally, the results from field experiments show that the scaffolding of a digital learning process enables for better learning outcomes. The book targets researchers, lecturers, and students in information systems, business administration, and educational technology. The book provides insights for practitioners concerned with the development of education and training.

Despite the advances in educational effectiveness theory and methodology in the last 20 years, important questions and issues remain unresolved. In particular, existing theoretical frameworks of educational effectiveness are only able to describe the interrelationship among factors at the system, school, classroom, and student levels and their cross-level interdependency in a very general manner. Additionally, although a large number of studies provide empirical evidence of the impact of single factors and factor constellations on student learning, the embedding of the empirically identified results in theoretical models of educational effectiveness has to be carried out more systematically in order to develop more elaborated theories of educational effectiveness. The aim of this book is to contribute to the advancement of educational effectiveness theory by discussing different strategies: including alternative theoretical models to understand educational in/effectiveness, extending the methodology to analyze processes and mechanisms of educational in/effectiveness, analyzing differential effects of processes and instruments on educational in/effectiveness, carrying out complex multivariate analyses considering manifest and latent variables, and combining theory and practice in real school situations. Taken together, the strategies presented in this book make it clear that the advancement of educational effectiveness theory depends on the advancement of educational effectiveness methodology, or in other words: from theory to methodology and from empirical evidence back to theory. This book was originally published as a special issue of School Effectiveness and School Improvement.
