Nothing is as unforgiving as the medical profession - a split-second delay can be fatal; a split-second decision can save a kidney, a heart or bring back a person from the dead. Doctors and surgeons chase excellence with a desperate determination - for the fundamental rule is in black and white: they either save a life, or they don't. But what can the medical profession teach us about success? Is being successful all about being lucky, or brilliant? Is it the preserve of the genetically privileged? Drawing from his surgical experiences - for which he holds two Guinness World Records - gynaecological endoscopic surgeon Dr Rakesh Sinha deconstructs success into simple, easy-to-grasp components which demonstrate that it is something we are all deserving of because we are biologically privileged. Over and above, he shows that no matter what we do or what our talents are, we need to chase victory with the same restless resolve as doctors do. Because, like in medicine, a life depends on whether we succeed or fail. Ours.

The Anatomy of the Body of God

We should remember that just as the Soul is the link between Body and Spirit, so is the Sun between Earth and Heaven, and the Great Central Sun between the Two Infinites.

We should remember that just as the Soul is the link between Body and Spirit, so is the Sun between Earth and Heaven, and the Great Central Sun between the Two Infinites. This Link between the Opposites is an all-important one, but it may be equally a Devil or Redeemer, according to the Influence it has upon us. I have showed this more fully elsewhere, and shall refer to it again.

Created by Joseph Pilates during the early 20th century, Pilates is used by millions today to improve their physical and mental well-being. Much of its appeal lies in its simple, low-impact approach, which is ideal for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and general physical health. Based on a series of precise movements and the employment of equipment such as rubber balls and exercise bands, Pilates emphasizes concentration, control, alignment, core stability, and proper breathing. The Anatomy of Pilates shows what actually happens to the body’s muscles and joints during Pilates exercises. Each two-page spread features detailed anatomical illustrations of an exercise (with muscle actions highlighted in red), a detailed description of the exercise and its objectives, the particular breathing pattern to be used, a list of the specific muscles being worked, visualization techniques, complementary exercises, and more. The Anatomy of Pilates is an accessible, authoritative guide for current and prospective teachers of Pilates, practitioners at all skill levels, physical therapists, and other health professionals.

"Since cities as living environments are steadily gaining in importance, they must not only grow in size, but rather develop in terms of quality. A first important step is understanding how cities function. The identity of each city is characterised by the behaviour of its inhabitants. At the same time, living conditions and realities are formed by the anatomy of a city. This anatomy is mostly determined by external factors. Remarkably, certain urban structures are used in a similar way all over the world. These influences and their effects on human life are illustrated and comprehensibly explained in this volume. The illustrated visualisations range from neighbourly urban quarters, via agglomerations, to macroregions stretching over thousands of kilometers. Through the combination of detailed maps on the one hand and real-life experiences on the other hand, the influence of the anatomy on the identity of the city is made understandable."--Page 4 de la couverture.

Neoplatonism has sometimes been seen as a species of mysticism. This volume shows that Neoplatonism has, on the contrary, a characteristic and definable structure. It presents the logic of Neoplatonism and carefully distinguishes it from the logic of other forms of philosophy.

The standard test battery developed by Rapaport, Gill, and Schafer at the Menninger Foundation constituted the most important research instrument (apart from clinical interviews) of the Foundation's psychotherapy research project. The battery's influence on clinical diagnosis and on research in personality assessment and change has been tremendous. In the hands of highly trained and skilled psychologists, the battery, constructed chiefly around projective tests, has been invaluable for diagnosing difficult cases. The complexity of interpreting it, however, and the many dimensions along which its findings can be organized, have made it frustratingly difficult to use in formal research. And its cost, because of the great time investment it requires, has made clinicians reticent about using it on a large scale. Dr. Appelbaum, an experienced psychotherapist and psycho analyst, was a distinguished member of the group of highly skilled psychologists who applied this test battery in the psychotherapy research reported here, although his role in this instance was re stricted to analyzing the findings of others who administered and interpreted the tests. In recent years, Dr. Appelbaum has been eval uating the mechanisms and effects of various psychotherapeutic approaches.
